Beachwood Music opened its doors in 2009, dedicated to creating great musicians.
It is the only musician owned and operated music store from Toms River to Atlantic City.
Co-owners John Kern and John Hawes have decades of experience playing music up and down the East Coast.

John has been performing and teaching for over 30 years.
He is proficient in all styles and techniques of Bass Guitar
John also teaches sight reading improvisation & applicable music theory for Guitar
Additionally John coaches ensembles of all ages levels and styles
John uses a goal system to get his students ready to tackle any/all of the musical opportunities that may come their way
A founding member of Shorty Long and the Jersey Horns, he plays close to 200 shows annually
He also trains students to do live sound lighting and av work

John has been performing and teaching for over 30 years.
He has freelanced in multiple bands up and down the Jersey Shore, including CSN songs and Shorty Long and the Jersey Horns.
John is proficient in all styles & sight reading
He also coaches ensembles of all ages styles & levels

Dan plays in various local musical acts including Shorty Long & The Jersey Horns
His instruction has helped his many students quickly rise to first chair level
He specializes in sight reading as well an improvisation on all instruments he teaches

Kiran Kanuga has experience with violin, piano, and ukulele.
She currently plays in the Toms River Multigenerational Orchestra and has participated in SJBODA (Regional Orchestra).
She enjoys playing all different styles of music and looks forward to working with new students!

Matt specializes in Jazz guitar & plays with various other acts of all styles
Jaymz is a highly skilled guitarist/instructor that plays in one of the areas top bands “Temporary Grace” & also fills in on a moments notice with various other acts of all musical styles
His adept knowledge of what it takes to do the job of “working guitarist” is par none
He is also proficient in guitar repair set ups & is resetting the bar sonically by constantly updating his gear to the next level
Jaymz has a unique ability to teach and convey his cutting edge improvisational skills and soloing techniques to his students propelling them to play and handle any musical endeavor
